Russian Avvakumova withdraws from Korea's biathlon teamEkaterina Avvakumova (Republic of Korea)

MOSCOW, April 26 (Itar-Tass) – RIA Novosti, Veronika Gibadieva. Biathlonist Ekaterina Avvakumova said that she will leave South Korea’s biathlon team and will no longer work with coach Andrei Prokunin.

Avvakumova from 2017, played for the national team of South Korea in biathlon. Prokunin is the senior coach of the Korean team.

"I’m leaving Korea. At least, I will not work with the previous coach. I do not need this biathlon. He broke his promises that there would be freedom in preparation, manipulated Korean coaches and athletes in every way, setting them against, exerting psychological pressure, exhausting before the race. Sometimes, going to the start, there was no strength even to warm-up. He led a dirty game by sporting standards and many of his actions do not fit into the concept "team coach" and "fair man". This is not a misunderstanding, this is hypocrisy", – reported Avvakumova RIA Novosti.

"Yes, I should be grateful to Andrey (Prokunin), that I performed at the World Cups, at the Olympics, for this experience, but after all that was in this season, he has exhausted his limit of gratitude and trust. And I have no desire to cross this man again. Even the vice-president of the Korean federation of biathlon John Min Kim turned out to be more humane, although I did not immediately realize this. He helped a lot, solved sometimes unsolvable tasks. Was a buffer between me and the coaches", – she added.

Avvakumova said that it was not easy to play for South Korea because of the big difference in mentality. "But you can work. It was always possible to find a compromise, agree on something, but for the absence of the above factor. I have dual citizenship. And home, I can always return", – she summed up.
