41% of Russians do not trust the information of the authorities about the fire in the shopping center “Winter Cherry” in Kemerovo, the newspaper “Vedomosti” reports with reference to the poll of the Levada Center. 46% of respondents believe in the authenticity of official data on the number of victims and the causes of the fire.
According to the survey, 85% of Russians are well aware of the tragedy, another 14% said they heard something about it. The main reasons for the fire were the ignorance of fire safety rules by the management of the shopping center, negligence of the employees of the “Winter Cherry” and fire services, as well as corruption in the management bodies.
Lev Gudkov, the head of the Levada Center, explains the high level of awareness of Russians about the fire by the fact that they talked a lot about him on television.
“Against the background of the post-electoral effect, this was a strong reputational blow to the authorities, so it had to be removed: show the need to find the guilty, demonstrate that the president sympathizes with people, solves the problem, instructs to check all shopping centers,” the expert believes.
The tragedy in Kemerovo occurred on March 25. According to the updated data of the UK, 60 people were killed. There were many children among them. The UK initiated proceedings on three counts: “causing death by negligence,” “violation of fire safety requirements, which caused the death of two or more persons through negligence” and “rendering services that do not meet security requirements”.
